Framing actions - 1 - Text

Framing actions - 1 - Text
Your rating: None Average: 5.7 (3 votes)

These Photoshop actions add a frame/border to your image with editable text. Everything is done in layers so it is quick and easy to tweak it (e.g. change the color of the frame).

This is the first of a series of action sets that you may use to quickly add nice frames to your images. They are intended for use on images for screen/web viewed at 100% zoom. Created in Photoshop CS4.

hallo,
I think that with 3200px image we see nothing, frame is very small and signature too.
just tried with a 640x428 image and have seen someting.
In fact for text, small right script says color fill layer not available yet but displays a beautiful text below and for large center, script says that background layer is not available and image appears with a beautiful black frame with titles,... below however after "continue?" image becomes grey and picture is hidden

any idea ?

Frame brushes

The brushes are intended to be run on a flat image (Layer > Flatten Image). If you do not have this, the action will most likely fail with errors like those you describe.

The actions are meant for creating frames on images that are to be displayed on a screen (e.g. on a website), and not for print (on print you will need a much larger frame). This means that your image should be resized correctly for screen use *before* running the action (zoom to 100% to see how big it is). It will not look good if you resize it after adding the frame.

If you want to add a frame like this for a print-size image (e.g. your 3200 px image) I think it would be better to use something like InDesign (that way your frame and text would be nice clean vector-graphics).

hallo,

Well, unfortunately Photoshop

Well, unfortunately Photoshop actions are not capable for every language. Because if you copy a layer, the action is looking for "layer copy" and in a french version the layer's name is different.
I think that's the problem, because I don't get a continue message.

Thanks for fast reply, I

Thanks for fast reply, I appreciate
it's a pity
can't you rename layers in the script with a name you know "mybackground", "myfill",... ?
otherwise, is it simple for me to edit your script and change the names ?

moreover i am not only interested with web publishing but printing so 13x18cm 300dpi or 20x30 240dpi...
when i used 3200px images i had very small texts and frames.
isn't it possible to work in percents or something like that ?

best regards

Editing the actions

You can easily edit the actions yourself. I had not thought of the language-compatibility before, but will keep it in mind for future actions.

I'm guessing on a non-english version it will fail on the "select layer: Background" or "select layer: color fill 1". To change this select the step in question. Hit record, and select the correct layer. Click Stop. You now have a new step called "select layer: something". Now delete the step that didn't work.
If you want the actions to run on images that haven't been flattened, record a flatten image step at the beginning of the actions.

The actions are fore images scaled for use on screen, not for print. For print you should edit the actions to create larger frames (how large would depend heavily on how large your image is!) or better yet, use InDesign or something to assemble it (then export to PDF or print directly).

Well, I'm not the author of this action. But your suggestion is the best way to make a action multilingual capable. I suggest you to contact the author "chain" at deviantart, because I can't modify the action

problem under 64bits

hallo,
I am not very good in using scripts. I create small easy ones for sharpening,... that'sit so sorry for stupid questions.
i have loaded your 1- text script atn. apparently it contains several scripts (large, small,..).
I open a 3800x2800px jpeg image and run one of them and roughly it works but background is missing, fill text is missing,... so finally it doesn't work. not sure it changes 3800x2800 into 600x400px...

what must i do for signature ? create a new document 600x600px 72dpi black and write in arial 19pt white my name... ?

thanks for help

best regards

Hello, I've tried the action

Hello,
I've tried the action with a 2000 x 1500px and 5811 x 2330px image and both worked fine.

You just have to paste your image and run the action. The action will create a text layer where you can add your signature.

Best regards,
Alexander Scholz
